I think this is a variation upon a 'street manhole cover'. We have them here (but not as gorgeously ornate) for water, electricity and gas, as well as other services.
ReplyDeleteI have been to Rome a few times, but I don't recall seeing this object. Hmmm...
ReplyDeletegreat manhole cover
ReplyDeletebello, รจ un nasone!! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like the design was taken from an old shield.
ReplyDeleteHey, you had time to click into the first of the month theme! Excellent. I confess I don't know what it is, though I probably should.
ReplyDeleteNo guesses/comments.
ReplyDeleteCan we make it 20 questions?
Is it on the ground or on a wall?
I think I know… it's one of those fountains for drinking, but shot from directly above… vero?
ReplyDeleteDaniele & Frank nailed it! It's a typical Rome drinking fountain, called "nasone." You can read more about these iconic cast iron fountains here
ReplyDeleteCiao!
