campidoglio

The Campidoglio area––Rome's Capitoline hill––is closed off to traffic. This also means no parking anywhere at all times. But according to the sign in the top image, only wedding vehicles are allowed on the weekend.
Rome city hall celebrates civil marriages in its richly upholstered Sala Rossa, a spacious room decorated with red tapestries and gold finish. So unless you're saying, "I do" on Saturday and Sunday, you can forget driving up the 100-step stone incline.

  2. Breathtaking! What a view! If I were to be immortalized as a statue, I would hope it would be where I could gaze upon beauty such as this.

  6. It would be FANTASTIC to drive down the steps, but totally impossible... RATHER, until twenty years ago you were illegally able to drive in and out from a tiny alley along "City Hall" I once drove my Fiat 850 up and AROUND the original (May, 1977)sculpture of Marcus Aurelis. It was just like you see it in Fellini's Roma, zooming in circles about it. Eleonora's uncle Manuel was married there! Hey, there's a moment in the wedding ceremony, where the Mayor pauses, looks to his aide to the left, to whom I then handed a Lire 10,000 note, who then nodded to the Mayor to complete the wedding. This is a part of EVERY marriage there. In other words, a bribe is institutionalized within the ceremony itself. Roma!

  7. As a first-time visitor to Rome last October/November, I walked all round this area, yet never saw this view! Too busy looking at the buildings immediately around me, and down the steps, and figuring out which door to take to get into the museum. I will make sure to look up and across next time :)
