In Italy, streetside markets are not all about food and second hand clothes. I like to linger before the colorful emporium-style stalls that sell hardware store materials (I have an insane passion for hardware stores). This particular one displayed its nifty items in plastic baskets, and in exchange for just one Euro. So if you're ever in need of a new potato peeler, adaptor for your gas stove, a strainer for the sink, stainless steel hooks, bottle-openers, garlic crushers, nutcrackers, can and jar openers and a million other all-sorts, all you have to do is stop by and leave just a few coins behind.
Uuumm, treasures... You forgot to mention they have 3 times use limit :-)))

ReplyDeleteI love those stalls, they have so many things, you can find the odd spare part or, certainly, the potato peeler - that's were mine comes from!

I had a delightful time wandering the weekend market stalls under building portico near the Mausoleum of Augustus in Rome.
ReplyDeleteAlso a great time at the large market on Viale d Papiniano in Milan.
Oh, look at all those gadgets. Very pretty photo. I love to visit markets, and especially little corners with hardware and odds and ends. I often find things I can add to jewelry pieces!

ReplyDeleteI used to go to electronics flea markets where they would have lots of bins filled with all sorts of electronics parts -- this reminded me of that... Great photo...
Hardware market stalls like this one are an important part of daily life and the locals stll seem to depend on them.

ReplyDeleteBtw, do you remember Cafe' Latour on Via Cola di Rienzo? Young and naughty, me friend Silvia and I loved to indulge in espresso con panna there, in una tazza da cappuccino. Tasted better than St. Eustacchio's, too bad the beautiful turn of the century interior was lost when the bar closed.
I absolutely love the markets in Italy. Too bad we don't have them like that in the States.
