promesse

Mobile snacks

Typically overdecorated yet cheerless roadside junk food trucks like this one commonly promise very very cold drinks and hot pizza, but traditionally carry exactly the opposite, and–however uninviting–the goods sell for exorbitant prices. Despite my best intentions, on hot summer days, when the Roman heat is unforgiving, I often fold and buy a bottle of very very lukewarm water.

  1. I have to admit I have caved in an visited places like this too. Here in Texas they are often much less decorated and dispense tacos, burritos, etc.

  2. Water, unlike sodas, is welcome at most any temperature. No shame beyond the nice subsidy you provide the vendor. Take that bottle back to your apartment and refill it, then put it in your bag for your next foray in the city.

    Happy New Year!

  5. One doesn't really have a choice if there are no other vendors. Very colorfully decorated things.

Wishing you and your family a new year full of love and peace.

  8. Really cool, colorful vendor! Good price, I have found some traditional family foods from vendors like these.

  9. I sort of like the way the Italian "roach coaches" look, but I'm sad to hear that they don't carry anything good. The ones here don't either.
