On my recent trip overseas, we were lucky to be able to drive up from Los Angeles to the Central Coast through a wonderful rural landscape. This portrayed above is Blackwell Corner Market on Hwy 46, where we stopped to stretch our legs and get a coffee, about half way through. I was touched by the sign at the entrance, 'in the red' is an expression many of us are sadly and often confronted with recently.

My friend J lives in a pretty astounding place. This is the view from his living room balcony. The larger terrace, where we customarily have lunch under a canopy of Virginia Creeper, enjoying the aromas of fresh herbs and the sound of birds chirping, overlooks another part of this gorgeous inner courtyard. 

Notice the many different shades of red: the typical Roman brick-red wall paint, the bright red geraniums, the baked terracotta of the roof tiles, and the fire engine red bougainvillea.

If you've been to the Villa Borghese park, you'll most probably have seen kids (and silly looking adults) zooming by on these odd pedal powered go-karts.

Disappointed

The elephant paddock at the Rome conservation zoo was just beyond the closed gate. But after taking this Ruby Tuesday shot, my son and I scuttled around the corner and made it to the front entrance. We arrived just in time to see the two Indian pachyderms being fed their daily ton and a half of fruit, potatoes, lettuce and grass.

Antiques' fairs, flea markets, vintage bijoux, second hand stores... I love to browse them lazily, find that perfect and unique piece, spend time bargaining and enjoying the beautiful displays. Look at these precious brooches, aren't they pretty? Can you guess which one is my favorite?
